Looking for the right makeup\nartist for your wedding day or special event can be a little bit of a\nchallenge.  So many people out there\nclaim they are a makeup artist just because they have an abundance of MAC\nmakeup, have done their sister\u2019s makeup for her prom,  \u2018everyone asks me to do their makeup\u2019 or have\nslapped MUA to their Instagram page. \nThis does not a makeup artist make!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If that were true then I would be\nan astronaut! I have a bunch of pictures of the universe and I know what NASA\nstands for.  But I am not an astronaut;\nit takes a little more than that to truly be something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A true makeup artist is dedicated\nto it, they are always honing their skills, always out there learning more and\nalways staying on the top of the latest trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So to help you find the right\nartist for you, here are a few questions you should ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How long have you been doing makeup professionally?<\/strong>  Someone can say they have been doing makeup\nfor years.  So adding the professionally<\/strong> part to the question\nwill really narrow it down. \nProfessionally means more than their mom, sister and best friend have\nhad them do their makeup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you have a portfolio?<\/strong>  A\ngood artist is always adding to their portfolio and they will have no\nhesitation in showing you what they have done. \nYou need to look for variety in their work, as well as how dated or\nupdated their work is.  If their\nportfolio is all high fashion, they may not be the artist to do your wedding\nday.  A good portfolio should have a good\nmix, showing variety, creativity and flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you have experience doing Bridal Makeup\/Ethnic Makeup\/Fantasy Makeup\n(Whatever specific look you are going for)?<\/strong> \nNot every makeup artist specializes in Bridal or Fantasy or ethnic\nmakeup, etc.   Find out if they can.  Each artist has their own personal style,\ntheir own specialty, so find the artist who has the one you\u2019re looking for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is your makeup experience? (Where were they trained, what do they\npredominately do and how often do they actually do makeup?)<\/strong>  Professional education is a nice bonus for\nany makeup artist to have under their belt. \nFor one it shows they have been legitimately trained and it proves that\nthey are really seriously devoted to their craft.  Also asking what they predominately do\nmakeup-wise will tell you if they are the right match for you and your\nevent.  Finding out if they are a weekend\nmakeup artist or do it as their day job tells you how much experience and\npractice they get.  All of these are good\nquestions and should be asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
